help.

anyone have any amazing ideas for getting prescription medicine into a 21 month old??

we are at the final straw ... i have to get the steroids in her (with at least a 12 hour window before tomorrow morning) ... or she will potentially end up hospitalized with pnemonia. i have to get her antibiotics in her ... or we will end up having to do antibiotics in the form of a shot tomorrow morning.

she is gagging on and throwing up everything. and i'm kinda at the end of my rope. i finally gave up and put her down for a nap.

does anyone know any good suggestions for getting meds in them?

help me!

Eeek! I don't have any. Both my children are good medicine takers. Have you tried making sure you get the medicine on the sides of her tongue? The taste buds aren't as strong there. I'm sure you've plugged her nose and blown in her face too.

We've had to do the shot thing and it worked well. Good luck!

My daughter throws up her predlisone, but I have found that it is easier for her to take if it is refrigerated..

Yup, I recommend refrigerating too. Another thing that has worked? Bribery. When Sprite was sick and needed that stuff, we promised stickers. She began to ask for the medicine, because we hauled out the cool stickers. (I hope your hubby made it home safely to help you and maybe give you a break from your rough week!)

Apple sauce or yogurt. The apple sauce works most of the time for us... when it hasn't, we've had to hold him down and force it down his throat from the syringe.

Good luck... sorry she's so sick!

Ick. You poor thing, both of you. Try refrigerating the meds. Can you ask your pharmacy to flavor them? Ours will put in extra flavor if I ask.

I also just go to the rocephin injection sometimes, just because we hit a rough time where Wren would take NO meds, and two adults holding her down while she gags and screams and spits is just...horrible. The injection does work well, and Noah has had to have it many times, always with good result.

Good luck. *HUGS*

Yikes. The docs must have SOMETHING up their sleeves, right?

Good luck with this.

Gosh, I feel your pain on this one. I've refrigerated the steroid too per the pharmacist's recommendation and given it with pudding, applesauce, yogurt, anything soft that you can think of. IF my kids took it, sometimes they would spit it up 5 minutes later and I was always calling the pharmacist (luckily he's my neighbor).

When my daughter was in the hospital last year with pneumonia, they had me gently hit her on the back to help loosen her chest. They suggested I do it after the nebulizer treatments.

I hope your little one is feeling better today and you got the prednisone down her belly. Good luck.

Oh Sweetie-came on this late, but in future maybe try diluting to a thinner consistancy with water? It weakens the taste/gag reflex and so even if there's twice as much to drink, they (my kids) take it easier. Hang in there, I'm rooting for you and your girl! :)
